The Lake Monroe to Winter Garden route was originally constructed as the 3-foot gauge Orange Belt Railway. The line was eventually acquired by the Atlantic Coast Line and converted to standard gauge. The line served the citrus growing area north of Orlando, but service was no longer needed after the area was developed. The route traverses several built-up residential neighborhoods.
A segment of line between Toronto and Clarcona is still in service and operated by the Florida Central. Separately, a short segment in an industrial area of Winter Park is still in service, connected to another ACL remnant operated by Florida Central. The right of way was obliterated by Florida State Hwy 429 in west Ocoee; while another segment has been converted to a bike trail.
