This abandoned segment is part of a branch of the Reading Railroad that at one time extended from Carlisle to Gettysburg, PA, crossing the Reading mainline at Carlisle Junction. The segment north of Carlisle Junction was likely abandoned when Conrail was formed in 1976. The segment south of Carlisle Junction to Gettysburg became the Gettysburg Railroad.
