This railroad line was originally built in 1880 by the Clinton, Bloomington and Northeastern Railroad (incorporated in Illinois on Aug. 23, 1878) as a means to connect citizens and produce in Colfax with other railroad lines in Bloomington. The line eventually came under the control of Illinois Central Railroad.
The line was abandoned under ownership of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.
