This line was once part of the Milwaukee Road's only mainline that ran eastward from Chicago (all others extended westward) to Westport, IN (see also Westport to Seymour), the eastern terminus, where it connected with the New York Central. The line intersected the Monon's line in Bedford.
The trackage was cut back to Seymour from Westport in 1961; while the portion between Bedford and Seymour was abandoned in 1978.
